Tan My Restaurant. When we’ve had a big night out, don’t be surprised when you wake up with an insatiable craving for noodle soup. You’ll know the place to go if that happens to be Tan My.

They are located in an unassuming strip mall near Ohlen and 183, in a spot we wish wasn’t so hard to find. Basically, it’s always busy here. Show up on a Saturday for lunch and you might need to circle around a few times before there’s a free parking spot left, then add your name to a long list to get in at communal tables.

It’s easy to miss it on 183 and Ohlen, but there are reasons why Homecooked has been open for so long. It gets busy, but the food is worth it. Come for lunch on a Saturday, you’ll probably have to circle around a few times to find a parking spot before getting seated at some communal tables.

One of our favorite dishes in Little Saigon is the bún bò Huế. It’s a fiery, bold pho broth with a slightly sweeter pork bone broth. The special herbs used as well as the fresh produce really make this Vietnamese classic stand out.

Huế is a favorite Vietnamese dish. The broth has a slightly sweeter pork bone-based soup, and it’s usually ordered when someone’s in the mood for something on the lighter side. Bún Canh is another good option—it’s warm phu noi noodles with various ingredients in a spicy broth that’s à la pointe (which means raw). For most of us, our first time here was likely to try their beef pho, which is among the city’s best—but if you stop by again, we recommend dipping your spoon into their house-special.

In Detroit, you’ll find a pretty extensive list of Vietnamese specialties. We recommend trying (beef pho) or  (pork bone broth) – both are quite exceptional. But don’t forget to order the now-famous beef noodle soup, with all of its rich, robust flavors that made it so popular in Vietnam!
